Welcome to Unit 2!
In the forums, many of you all have commented on Todd Rose's call to "design to the edges" in your classrooms. The common question in discussion is "but how?" That question is the crux of the next four units.
Unit 2 will walk you through one way in which your students' may learn differently: Working Memory. The unit features a student story and a teacher's classroom we hope you will take some time to review. The videos combined with the resources featured in the "Lay the Foundation" page of the unit will help you better understand what working memory is, why it matters for your students' ability to learn, and how you can better support your students.
You can access Unit 2 by clicking here or by going to go.ncsu.edu/summerld and scrolling to the link at the bottom of the page.
As you go through the course, we encourage you to think about a few things:
- This week we are piloting our first set of micro-credentials (also known as badges). This optional opportunity to extend your learning is designed to help you make real changes in your classroom practice, and there’s an opportunity for additional credit and CEUs! Learn more by clicking here.
- Don’t forget that you can sign up for virtual PLC groups! Week one was a huge success and we look forward to the continued dialogue these offer.
- Continue to use the hashtag, #all_learn, on Twitter. We've had a great ongoing dialogue over there and will build on this with a twitter chat next week. If you haven’t already, you should also check out how we’re using Voxer to connect!
- Remember, just because we've opened up Unit 2, you should feel free to go back to Unit 1 and move at your own pace. Previous units in the course will always remain open. You can go back to them at any time by clicking on the unit title on the course home page.
