The Enhancing Statistics Teacher Education with E-Modules [ESTEEM] project is committed to changing the data and statistics learning experiences in grades 6-12 classrooms by engaging future teachers in meaningful teacher education materials. To reduce barriers to access, our materials are provided for free, only use tools easily accessible in classrooms, and can be imported into three common learning management systems to use in teacher education courses or professional development. By registering for the ESTEEM portal you have access to preview the ESTEEM modules, which can then be downloaded into your own LMS.
The ESTEEM project has designed 3 modules to be used with preservice middle and high school mathematics teachers in online environments. Many instructors choose to adapt materials for use in face-to-face or hybrid courses, or use them with other teacher audiences.
The following modules are available:
- Module 1 - Foundations in Statistics Teaching (1.1 and 1.2)
- Module A - Teaching Inferential Reasoning (A.1 and A.2)
- Module B - Teaching Statistical Association (B.1 and B.2)
The diagram below shows our modular approach. Module 1 should always be taught first because it provides important perspectives, instructional strategies, and experiences with data-focused statistical investigations. Instructors can then choose to implement Module A and/or Module B in any order. The materials also include Task Design and Screencast Assignments to provide an opportunity for preservice teachers to demonstrate their new understandings about doing and teaching statistics.
